Petition Against Uranium Exploration and Mining
Since spring 2025, a petition has been circulating against uranium exploration and mining in Nova Scotia, following the news that the Government of Nova Scotia lifted a long-standing ban on these activities.
- The Request for Proposal (RFP) for uranium exploration in the province was released in May 2025.
- In June 2025, the province announced that no bids had been received.
- Although the RFP has expired, discussions about potential uranium exploration in Nova Scotia are ongoing.
- The petition reflects the official opposition of Nova Scotia residents to uranium exploration and mining.
- Everyone who cares about protecting Nova Scotia’s environment and the health and well-being of families is encouraged to sign the petition.
- On October 3, 2025, the first batch of petitions, containing 7,000 signatures, was presented at the House of Assembly.
- Petitions are still being circulated and collected for submission at the next session of the House of Assembly.
According to the Nova Scotia Legislature regulations on petitions, the current Rules and Forms of Procedure of the House of Assembly do not allow electronic petitions. Only paper petitions with original signatures will be accepted and considered by the House.
If you’d like to print a copy of the petition to share with your friends, family, community groups, and local businesses, please find the petition here.
For more information about the petition and instructions on submitting completed forms, please reach out to one of the volunteers. They can assist with collecting the petitions and ensuring they are delivered to elected officials for presentation at the upcoming session of the Nova Scotia Legislature.
